The U.S. Army's Problem: Workplace Surfaces
AmCoat Industrial was invited to a U.S. Army base to address issues in their motor pool spaces. The base had been frequently recoating workspace flooring due to stains, cracks, and general wear and tear. With an understanding of AmCoat’s Floor Shield concrete coatings, the Army requested a test floor.
Requirements:
The U.S. Army needed flooring that would:
- Prevent slip-fall injuries
- Withstand heavy abuse
- Be easier to maintain than traditional flooring
The Solution: Floor Shield
After completing the test floor, a unanimous decision was made to install Floor Shield in the priority spaces. The floors not only withstood rigorous testing but also significantly improved in appearance. A Commanding Officer was so impressed that Floor Shield was requested for multiple projects.
To date, over 200,000 square feet of Floor Shield have been installed at this base, covering barracks hallways, bathrooms, office spaces, kitchens, and more. The list keeps growing, and AmCoat Industrial is proud to be part of the solution.
Slips, trips, and falls represented approximately 34% of total injury cases among Department of the Army Civilian personnel during the fiscal year 2015. From 2001 to present, there have been over 3,101 documented slip and fall injuries within the Department of Defense (DoD). These incidents entail substantial economic costs, with millions of dollars expended and thousands of work hours lost.
